Windows Device Instructions

STEP 1: Wireless Connection

  1. On the Desktop (Home Screen)
  2. Click on the Wireless Icon on the bottom right hand of screen.
  3. Select LUwireless and then click Connect.
  4. When prompted enter your username and Lawrence password.

Note: You will not have full internet access until you complete the rest of the process below.

STEP 2: Update or Install Security & Antivirus Software

All window computers must have current antivirus software installed in order to register on the Lawrence University Network. Download any updates available for your antivirus software. (Note: Although you will not have access to the majority of the Internet until your computer is registered, you WILL have access to both antivirus updates and the Lawrence University home page.)

If you currently do not have antivirus software, or if your subscription has expired, Lawrence University has suggestions for (free) anti-virus software based on your operating system. You can find these at:

Note: Lawrence does not provide antivirus software for personally owned computers.

STEP 3: Update Your Operating System

All computers must have a current operating system in order to register on the LU Network. Please follow these steps to ensure your operating system has the latest updates. (Note: Although you will not have access to the majority of the Internet until your computer is registered, you WILL have access to operating system updates.)

Windows 10:

  1. From Desktop go to the Search field.

  2. Type Windows Update in search field.

  3. Select Check for Updates in found search results.

  4. The Update & Security window will open. Select CHECK FOR UPDATES (button) and install all available updates.

STEP 4: Network Registration

  1. Open an internet Browser such as Edge, Firefox, Chrome.
  2. A security page should appear (if it doesn't try going to a website such as cnn.com).  If using Internet Explorer or Edge, tap Continue to this Website (Not Recommended).  If using Firefox/Chrome, tap ADD an Exception. Tap Get certificate.  Tap Confirm Security exception.
  3. A Lawrence University Network Device Registration page will appear. After you have read the "Acceptable Use Policy" click Agree to continue.
  4. Select the link "student personal device registration".
  5. Enter your Username and Password, Select appropriate device for the type of connection and click Download.
  6. A download window will appear. Click Run
  7. A Windows User Account Control prompt will appear. Click "Yes".

Your computer will be scanned for required software by the Bradford agent. Once the scan is complete, a success/failure page will appear. NOTE: Typically users will need to restart their computer to gain internet access. If the failure page appears, read the message carefully. It will tell you either your Operating System has more updates or your antivirus has more updates. 

Note: If your computer did NOT come with the Microsoft Office, use the link provided below to download Microsoft Office Suite.

Download Office 365

To download the free Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office software do the following.

  1. On you device go to: https://webmail.lawrence.edu
  2. Click on Office 365
  3. Login to Office 365 with your username@lawrence.edu (i.e., smithj@lawrence.edu) and your password.
  4. Click the gear icon (top, right corner).
  5. Select Office 365 settings from the list.
  6. Choose Software from the list.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Click Run when prompted and follow onscreen instructions.

Connect to Your Personal Network Space

Windows 10

  1. For Windows 10 - Select Desktop at the bottom of your screen and tap on the folder icon (file explorer).

  2. On the left of the window, select This PC.

  3. On the top left of the window, tap  Computer then Map Network Drive.

  4. Select drive P: In the folder field, type: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\student\username (substitute with your LUusername).

  5. Check the box  Reconnect at Logon.

  6. Select Connect using different credentials and tap Finish.

  7. In the username field, type: Viking\username (substitute with your LUusername).

  8. In the password field, enter your Lawrence password. Tap OK. Tap Finish.

To reconnect after your computer is restarted:

  1. From Desktop-go to the bottom of your screen and tap on the folder icon.

  2. On the left of the window, select Computer.

  3. Double-tap the drive you just mapped.

  4. At the password prompt, Enter your Lawrence password.

Note: The network \\curtis.lawrence.edu\student\username folder is a location in which you can save your documents.  This is accessible from your personal computer or from all campus computers. From a campus computer it can be found on the desktop under the My Documents folder.

Technology Services strongly recommends that you save your documents to your network folder. Why? If something should happen to your computer, documents saved on the curtis.lawrence.edu folder are backed up on our server.  

Always be aware you need some kind of a back up of your documents or folders

Connect to Campus Share (Class Share)

Windows 10

  1. From Desktop - go to the bottom of your screen and tap on the folder icon.
  2. On the left of the window, select This PC.
  3. On the top on the window, tap Computer then Map Network Drive.
  4. Select drive U: In the folder field, type: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\campus_share.
  5. Check the box  Reconnect at Logon.
  6. Select Connect using different credentials.
  7. Login with your username@lawrence.edu and password. (substitute with your LUusername)
  8. Tap Finish.

  1. Double-click Computer.
  2. Double-click the drive you just mapped.
  3. At the password prompt, enter your password.

Campus Printing

To encourage sustainable decision making that results in reducing waste, Lawrence has implemented a yearly print allowance for all students.  Each student will receive an annual print allowance of $300.00.  This Print Allowance is maintained in the campus printing system and is separate from all other accounts including Viking Gold.

To print on campus

  • From your computer or mobile device you can upload files using the Web Print option by logging into http://print.lawrence.edu
  1. From print.lawrence.edu click on Web Print
  2. Click on Submit a Job
  3. Select a printer to print to and click Print Options and Account Selection
  4. Enter number of copies to print
  5. Click Upload Documents
  6. Upload documents to print and click Upload & Complete

 

Access your LU Email

  1. Open an Internet Browser and go to http://webmail.lawrence.edu
  2. Click on Office 365
  3. Log in with your username@lawrence.edu (for example smithj@lawrence.edu) and your password.
