The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the results of your Judicial Board hearing on January 17, 2021. The Judicial Board has unanimously found you in violation of
- CONSIDERATION HOURS: ARTICLE III B. 1.00
- Noise (specifically disruptive conduct during 24/7 consideration hours) - “At all times, members of the Lawrence community should exercise consideration with regard to noise and other distractions. A student has the right to the use of his or her room for sleep, study, and recreation. The rights to sleep and to study take precedence over the right to recreation”
- COVID 19 RESIDENTIAL POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Room Capacity (Max allowed in this space is 3) - Student room capacity for gatherings will be restricted to the number of room occupants plus one (ex. Double rooms will allow for a maximum of three people at any time).
- Masking while gathering as group - Masks must be worn when in interior public areas or when gathering in a group both indoors and outdoors. All areas of residence halls and houses including hallways, lounges, laundry rooms, etc. are considered interior public areas and thus require masks to be worn
- STUDENT HANDBOOK – ALCOHOL - PAGE 23 (Regarding Underage consumption and distribution of alcohol)
- The university also is opposed to the illegal or irresponsible use of alcohol, and expects its students and employees to obey the university regulations and the local, state, and federal laws concerning the possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic substances. With regard to students, possession, use and distribution of alcoholic beverages to persons of legal age are permitted on the campus only by persons of legal age. Anyone distributing alcoholic beverages to a person not of legal age or any person not of legal age possessing or using alcoholic beverages is subject to disciplinary action by the university.
The board has decided on the following sanction:
An official warning which constitutes notification that adverse judgment has been rendered against you and that further violation of the Social Code may result in a more severe penalty.
Residential warning through June 10, 2021, which constitutes notification that further incidents or violations of the Social Code and/or COVID policies and protocols will be brought back to this Board for consideration and adjudication and may result in expulsion from the residence in which you are living or from campus housing altogether.
If you wish to appeal this decision, you must inform the President, in writing, within three days of receiving this letter.
The members of the Board hope you understand that our responsibility is to hear all formal complaints, decide if a violation has been committed and apply a sanction when warranted. We hope you understand that you need to respect the rights of others if we are to maintain a satisfactory living and learning environment at Lawrence. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the results of your Judicial Board hearing on February 16, 2021. The Judicial Board has unanimously found you in violation of
COVID 19 RESIDENTIAL POLICIES & EXPECTATIONS
Room Capacity – no guests were permitted to be in student room at the date of the report.
The board has decided on the following sanction:
Removal from campus housing. You must depart campus housing by the end of the winter term of classes and no later than March 18, 2021. This increased sanction is the result of already being on residential warning at the time of this new violation.
You must meet with the dean of students to develop a plan for your departure and as to how you will successfully navigate the remaining weeks on campus so as to not have any additional violations of the COVID policies or social code. You must meet with Curt no later than Wednesday, February 24, 2021. You should also be aware that any further violations will result in an immediate departure from campus.
If you wish to appeal this decision, you must inform the President, in writing, within three days of receiving this letter.

The board has decided to dismiss this complaint based on the determination that the conduct which is the subject of the complaint is protected by your right to freedom of expression and that there was no violation of university polices as alleged in the complaint.
