The residence hall staff is comprised of student Community Advisors (CAs) and professional Residence Hall Directors (RHDs), who are all here to make sure your college experience is the best it can be.
Community Advisors are selected and trained upper class students living in the residence halls who have demonstrated leadership capabilities. CAs are probably the first Lawrentians you will meet, and they will assist you in getting to know other students and help you begin the adjustment to college life.
CAs strive to create a positive residential community by assisting fellow students with their academic, social, and emotional needs. A resource to residents, CAs work to help you establish friendships, feel at home, and find your niche on campus. Through programming and positive role modeling, the CAs work to foster a safe, comfortable, and welcoming community.
Residence Hall Directors are full-time professional staff members, with college degrees, who manage the overall operation of the halls and serve as valuable resource people. RHDs are responsible for programming and activity planning and are the direct supervisors for student desk staff and CAs. While working closely with the CA team to make sure the student community is running smoothly, RHDs also provide on-going general counseling support and opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
Residence hall services range from tangible things such as laundry and movie check-outs to activities designed to enhance your college experience. Each of the seven main residence halls has its own Hall Council, which is responsible for governance of the community and serving as a resource and sounding board for residents, while also planning social activities. Each Hall Council is funded through the hall activity fee and advised by the building RHD. Typical Hall Council activities include trips to the grocery store, barbecues, trips to a variety of restaurants/shops/ice cream parlors, and Timber Rattlers (Appleton's minor league baseball team) games.
