Helpdesk Analyst

Helpdesk Analyst works with the Helpdesk Coordinator to ensure that all questions or problems that come to the Helpdesk via telephone, email, voice mail, and walk-ins are addressed in a timely, accurate, efficient, and friendly manner.  These students spend much of their time on the telephone trouble-shooting software problems and questions.  There is some filing, copying, collating, and data entry. 

This position requires a commitment of 4-10 hours per week Monday-Friday.  Days and times are structured from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm but we are looking for coverage mainly between 11-1 pm and 3-5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Duties Include:

  • Answer phones
  • Assist walk-ins
  • Trouble-shoot software or technical issues
  • Perform general clerical duties including photocopying and mail distribution
  • Data entry and updates to request tracking system
  • Create and modify documentation utilizing Microsoft Office
  • Organize and schedule appointments
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment being checked out
  • Other duties as assigned

Lab Runner

Lab Runners ensure that the public computer labs are kept in good working order (paper and toner is stocked, paper gets recycled, the lab is kept clean, and machines are connected to the network). The Lab Runner reports any printer or computer problems to the Helpdesk.

This position requires a commitment of two-hour shifts Monday-Friday, days and times are somewhat flexible.

Duties Include:

  • Checking each of the public-general use labs on a daily basis
  • Restocking paper/toner in lab printers as needed
  • Testing lab computers for network connection
  • Cleaning up lab area as needed
  • Reporting issues with printer or lab computers
  • Clearing jams in printers as needed
  • Reporting issues back to the Helpdesk staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Computer Technician Assistant

Computer Technician Assistants work with the Computer Technicians to address any problems with computing devices that arise on campus. As a Computer Technician Assistant, you will spend much of your time fixing problems on lab, staff and faculty computing equipment (computers, printers, projectors, mobile devices)

This position requires commitments of 4-15 hours/week, Monday-Friday between 8-5pm. Shifts are somewhat flexible.

Duties Include:

  • Fixing printer jams
  • Cleaning printers
  • Inventory control checks
  • Installing software
  • Working with Microsoft office
  • Installing/Imaging Computers
  • Assisting fellow students with virus issues
  • Assisting fellow students with network registration
  • other tasks as assigned

Summer Computer Technician Assistants

Summer Computer Technician Assistants work with the Computer Technicians to inventory new computing devices, recycling of old equipment, and addressing any problems with new or existing computers on campus. As a Summer Computer Technician Assistant, you will spend much of your time un-boxing, tagging and setting up new staff and faculty computers and printers. The hours for these positions are full-time, 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Some flexibility can be arranged with the supervisor.

Student Web Developer

Student Web Developers create custom application solutions in client-side and server-side languages (e.g. JavaScript and PHP). They work closely with the Web Developers in order to provide web services and support. Student Web Developers may also update and maintain Web content on various Lawrence University properties.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of server-side Web programming languages, especially PHP.
  • Familiarity with OR interest in learning about the following subjects:
    • Content Management Systems (especially Drupal and WordPress)
    • Image manipulation programs such as Photoshop, The GIMP, etc.
    • Secure programming concepts and methodologies
    • LAMP stack and related technologies (such as MySQL/MariaDB, Bash)
    • Docker containers
  • Strong communication skills.

Print Shop Assistant

Assist with the various print jobs that are printed at the Print Shop. The hours for the position are flexible between the 8 to 4pm work day.

Tasks Include:

  • Copying
  • Folding, collating, and assembling mailings
  • Poster distributions (on-campus)
  • Punching, binding and assembling booklets
  • Printing of large format posters
  • Scanning and printing blueprints
