Lawrence Statement on Diversity
As an institution of liberal learning dedicated to preparing our students for life in the 21st century, Lawrence University is committed to creating a diverse university community that enriches teaching and learning as well as promotes respect and understanding. The world is increasingly interconnected, and the ability to interact intelligently and productively with diverse groups and viewpoints is now a vital life skill and is central to accomplishing the mission and purposes of a liberal arts college.
To achieve our goal of creating a more diverse university community, we rely on diversity in the faculty, the staff, the student body, and in the curriculum We value diversity in areas such as race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental or marital status, age, and disability. Therefore, the university places a high value on recruiting and retaining individuals who can contribute to the University’s diversity goals In faculty hiring. An individual’s ability to participate in establishing a more diverse community is also based upon the faculty member's area of scholarly interest, community engagement activities, contributions to the curriculum, and pedagogical methods.
