Federal Funding Agencies

The following is a list of federal funding agencies with a brief description of each. For more information on a given agency and up-to-date information on their grant areas, please follow the links.

The National Science Foundation is a federal funding agency providing support for all fields of fundamental science and engineering (for medical science see National Institute of Health).

 

The National Institute of Health supports research in the causes including diagnosis, prevention, and cure of human diseases, the processes of human growth and development, the biological effects of environmental contaminants, and the understanding of mental, addictive and physical disorders.

 

The National Endowment for the Humanities grantees include museums, archives, libraries, colleges, universities, public television, radio stations, and individual scholars. Their grants support strengthening teaching and learning in schools and college, research and original scholarship, opportunities for lifelong learning, access to cultural and educational resources, and strengthening the institutional base of the humanities.

 

The National Endowment for the Arts supports projects designed to give access to the arts, practice artistic creativity, and develop creative capacity. 

 

The Department of Education funds projects that support equal access to education and improve educational quality.
